The original creators of the famous ice cream brand Ben & Jerry's has announced how parent company Unilever prevented the launch for a new Palestine-themed ice cream flavor.

The entrepreneur, who established the company alongside his partner, disclosed how he will personally create the controversial product within a personal collection highlighting causes the company was barred from speaking out about.

Ongoing Conflict Involving Creators and Corporate Owner

The recent development intensifies the ongoing disagreement among the internationally recognized dessert company with its corporate parent, the UK-based packaged goods corporation that has owned Ben & Jerry's since 2000.

The co-founders have claimed that Unilever and their ice cream division the Magnum brand improperly prevented their company from "fulfilling its ethical commitments".

Watermelon Sorbet as a Symbol of Solidarity

The entrepreneur revealed through an Instagram video how he is creating a new watermelon-flavored frozen dessert, asking for public suggestions for naming options plus potential ingredients.

“I'm accomplishing what they couldn't,” the founder stated in a cooking set. “I'm creating a watermelon-based ice cream that calls for permanent peace for Palestinians while demanding addressing the harm that was done there.”

This particular fruit has emerged as a symbol for support for Palestinians due to its colors, which match those of Palestine's national banner – red, green, black and white.

Historical Social Engagement plus Current Developments

In 2021, the ice cream company ceased sales of its products in territories occupied by Israel, leading to the parent company transferring their Israel business over to a local licensee, thus allowing continued sales in disputed territories.

This upcoming product line will be developed under Mr. Cohen's personal brand, the socially conscious dessert company that originally established several years back for endorsing former political contender Senator Sanders via the product "Bernie's Back".

Management Changes and Upcoming Plans

Mr. Cohen revealed how he will develop other frozen dessert varieties that address issues which the company was silenced from addressing publicly due to corporate restrictions.

This development comes after partner Mr. Greenfield resigned from the company recently, after many years of involvement, mentioning concerns that its independence had been compromised following corporate moves to restrict their advocacy work.

Previously, Mr. Cohen remarked that “My partner has a really big heart and the ongoing dispute with our parent company was breaking it."

"My heart compels me to keep working inside the company to fight for corporate autonomy ensuring that it can achieve its ethical purpose, the principles that it was founded on while upholding for decades," he told journalists.
