Brian Eno Urges Support to Send Together for Palestine Lullaby to UK Holiday Chart Peak.
A campaign is aiming to send a Palestinian lullaby to the top of the UK charts. The project aims to send support to communities in Gaza while also spotlighting Palestinian cultural expression.
A Possibility for Solidarity and an "Unlikely Coup"
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the song titled Lullaby represents a opportunity to support Palestinians over the Christmas period. He noted the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“It would be fantastic if that happened, yes,” he said. “I wouldn't be completely disheartened if it fails to, Christmas singles are a thing unto themselves.”
Defiant Message of Dignity and Freedom
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the reimagining of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the track's resilient spirit.
“It occupies a profound significance for many individuals,” Barghouti said. “The message is that I would prefer a dignified death than exist without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we desire to exist a respectful existence that we deserve as Palestinians.”
Production History and Contributing Musicians
The song was recorded following a solidarity show held in the autumn. Initially planned to be done as a live recording, the performance was omitted from the lengthy event due to scheduling overruns.
The notable list of artists featured on Lullaby encompasses a selection of acclaimed names from the scene. All participated in the earlier concert, which managed to collect a substantial amount for relief efforts.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was produced by a team of talented individuals. The track showcases a combination of the traditional Arabic lyrics with freshly written English words.
The group managing the project have stated that their objective is to collect the highest amount for a charitable pot. These donations will be allocated to Palestinian causes through an established charity.
“We haven't set a rigid aim,” a figure commented. “We’ll go for whatever we can get. Of course, the greater the amount, the better. It all goes out to Gaza.”
The reality in the region was characterized as its widespread damage, with a huge proportion of buildings said to be in ruins or severely impacted.
“In that context, a few million is unlikely to make that much difference. But I think what truly matters is primarily spreading knowledge of this plight and showing the human dimension of the story.”
The song is launching this Friday. Additionally, a video of the solidarity show will be made available for streaming on a popular streaming site from later in the month.
