Iran Reports Attack on American Facility in Bahrain, During Regional Counterattacks.
Iranian forces say they have struck a American military facility in Manama, as Iran launched missile attacks across the region in retaliation for a significant and ongoing attack against it by the United States and Israeli forces.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an zone near the main base of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The full scale of any destruction is not yet known and the American officials has not commented.
Regional Interceptions
Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - which all house American military installations - stated they have engaged and destroyed missiles in their territorial skies.
In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard declared it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the strikes on Iran carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.
That initial attack - launched at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on sites associated with the the regime, with US President Donald Trump calling on the Iranian people to revolt against the leadership.
Wider Impacts
In the State of Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israeli military said it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates stated that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems engaged the missiles with high efficiency and successfully intercepted a series of missiles," it added.
The statement noted wreckage fell on a neighborhood in Abu Dhabi, causing some structural damage and fatalities.
The US Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
