Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After NYC Shooting
Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he recently spoke with defensive back Kris Boyd and feels certain the player will be OK after being shot in midtown Manhattan in the early hours of Sunday.
Glenn described that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “upbeat” during their recent conversation.
“That’s what eases my mind, is that his mood is upbeat,” Glenn commented. “His wife and child, they are doing well and he will come through this without issue.”
It remained unclear when Boyd could be discharged the hospital, where his condition is described as in critical but steady condition.
“Not certain at the moment,” Glenn remarked. “But I will say this, just talking to him, he felt really upbeat. Furthermore, that puts my mind at ease, because of his outlook and his words reflect that optimism.”
Authorities issued surveillance images Monday of an individual wanted in the attack on the player. What prompted the attack is still being looked into and police mentioned it remains uncertain if Boyd was the intended victim. There were no additional victims according to reports.
The incident occurred just after 2am on Sunday about halfway between the famous arena and Times Square. Boyd, in his late twenties, was taken to Bellevue Hospital after being shot in the abdomen, as reported. The perpetrator got away.
Glenn mentioned Boyd has been on his mind “a great deal” since learning of the incident. Glenn added that Boyd and his wife just had a child.
“My initial concern, he recently became a father,” Glenn noted. “My mind went to his family, considering his child and I want to make sure that he’s OK. That was my main concern.
“A certain process is underway, I’ll keep private, but I am pleased that he will recover excellently.”
Boyd was inactive in the present campaign, his debut year with New York, after being placed on injured reserve on mid-August with an injury to his shoulder that involved surgical repair.
Boyd came to New York as a free agent in March and was anticipated to become a significant contributor of the team’s updated special teams under Glenn and special teams coordinator the special teams coach. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during preseason drills on 2 August and had to be helped off.
Boyd continued to be present during the entire campaign while recovering from the shoulder injury.
“He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn commented. “Certainly, he is a regular at our matches. He is completely involved. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”
Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, spent his initial four years with the Vikings after being a seventh-round pick by Minnesota out of UT in 2019. He signed with Arizona in last year and moved to Houston’s squad subsequently. Boyd signed a one-year contract for $1.6 million with New York in March.
