Patrick Bamford Signs With Sheffield United After Initiating Derogatory Chants Targeting Manager Wilder
The striker has joined the Championship side only seven months following leading derogatory songs directed at their manager, Wilder.
This experienced striker, without a club after departing from Leeds, has put pen to paper on a deal with the Championship strugglers through the winter. Bamford's seven-year time at Elland Road finished by mutual consent in August.
Among the player's final notable acts as a Leeds player involved leading insulting songs about Wilder during Leeds' promotion celebrations in April. Now, the former England player will feature under Wilder as the Blades’ manager aims to lift his beloved club out of the relegation zone.
Previous History Involving Bamford & Wilder
The pair had previous conflict prior to Leeds earned promotion to the top flight the previous campaign while Sheffield United lost the playoff final by Sunderland. The manager called the forward as “a muppet” back when the situation was different in 2018-19 and the Blades secured direct promotion while Leeds missed out in the playoffs.
Reconciliation and Looking Ahead
All appears to have been resolved with Sheffield United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, in desperate need of improvement in attack while Bamford hoping to resurrect his career.
The Wilder chant spread widely this spring. A repentant Bamford along with Leeds boss, Farke, called the Sheffield United manager the following day.
Wilder commented at the time: “Spoke with Pat recently and I have no problem at all with it. I’m not sure regarding the words used from a fellow professional! However I appreciated and admired him calling me.
“We spent a short while and the same again I talked with Daniel as well and we had a half-hour chat together and he's a super guy, a class act. When I was playing we used to dish it out and take it and that’s an integral part of the game at every level, even on Sunday league. I've got absolutely no issue. I am cool with the situation and I said that to Pat.”
Latest Playing Struggles
