Fashion legend Antony Price, the groundbreaking British fashion designer who crafted a series of unforgettable images associated with musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has sadly died aged 80.

He was celebrated for his defined forms and theatrical styles, including the pastel suits that featured in the iconic band Duran Duran's seminal music video for "Rio".

"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement across their platforms."

His passing follows shortly after he unveiled his most recent collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. Singer Lily Allen walked in a dress that paid homage to the notorious black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" made famous by Princess Diana.

A Pioneering Career

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price relocated to London at the start of the 1960s to attend the esteemed Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he started his work in clothing for men at Stirling Copper and was behind the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger sported during the band's Gimme Shelter tour in the late sixties.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show opened with creations worn by the famed model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the wedding dress Price designed for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A frequent collaborator of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price created the distinctive jacket the singer wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to merge elements of men's and women's fashion along with his technical proficiency in designing form-fitting garments established him as a "true original," as stated by the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he commenced designing pieces for Camilla, now Queen Consort, which included several ensembles for her American tour after assuming the title.

With a vocation that covered more than five decades, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London recently in collaboration with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

  • Defined Shapes: A hallmark of his work.
  • Performative Style: Shaping the look of rock and pop.
  • Genre-Blending Design: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • A Client List from Rock to Royalty: From David Bowie and Mick Jagger to Queen Camilla.

The fashion world mourns the loss to a genuine innovator whose impact on style and culture remains indelibly etched.
