The President Welcomes Families of Attacked Military Members to White House

Former President Donald Trump announced on the weekend that he has extended an invitation the relatives of a National Guard member fatally shot last week to visit the presidential home.

He mentioned that he spoke to her family and they were “devastated”.

Information on the Devastating Incident

Soldier Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a shooting on Wednesday in the nation's capital.

Her colleague, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, is still in the hospital in critical condition.

Memorials across West Virginia have been held in their remembrance.

Presidential Call

The commander-in-chief stated he’s proposed a visit to the White House for the parents of both members of the West Virginia National Guard.

“I stated: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a difficult moment, come to the White House. We’re going to honor her,” the president told journalists. “And similarly with him, whether he recovers or not.”

Community Response

Mourners assembled over the past few days at a local school in the state to pay respects to Beckstrom.

Both they had been working with the state guard as part of Trump’s government program to aid law enforcement in DC.

Paying Tribute to the Soldier

“Sarah was the kind of student that instructors desired. She conducted herself with quiet strength, a warm expression and a positive energy that lifted those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the leader of Beckstrom’s former high school, informed the Associated Press. “She was caring, compassionate and always ready to help others.”

Funeral arrangements for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.

Legal Measures and Policy Changes

Law enforcement have charged a twenty-nine-year-old Afghan national with one count of homicide and two counts of assault with intent to kill while carrying a weapon.

The incident caused the Trump administration to pause asylum applications and temporarily stop granting visas to owners of travel documents.

Status of Wolfe

Wolfe, a native of Martinsburg, started his military career in 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman high school, according to the AP.

He is still undergoing care and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia leader the governor stated on television.

The state’s top lawyer Bondi informed the program that she aimed to visit his relatives.

Memory of Beckstrom

Beckstrom, from Summersville, completed her education from her high school in 2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a military police officer with excellence, as stated by the military.

“She had a lot of goodness and she definitely had fortitude,” he addressed the crowd at the memorial. “Though her time was cut short, she has created a legacy that’s going to endure.”
